So today we are going to talk about taking care of ourselves as dance studio owners or dance teachers.
Our health is so important especially since our job is so physical. I know I have mentioned that I have been on a better health journey and just wanted to share that I am starting to finally feel like me. I wish I did this sooner. So far I have been eating mostly fruit, veggies, and non processed foods, and then on the weekend I might have a meal that is more than fruits and veggies and I have been really good at not eating super late and munching on snacks late at night! As a dance teacher it was getting frustrating not being able to do certain moves anymore, or my stomach just kept getting in the way. I am not to my ideal weight yet but I’m getting there.
Exercise is so important too. I recently signed up to get my Zumba license. I have always thought Zumba is so much fun and I am always smiling when I do it, so I thought I would give it a try. So far I am really liking this program and looking forward to adding some new moves to my dance program and adding Zumba options for my classes!
It’s important for us to take care of ourselves. We manage a lot when you think about it. If you are a studio owner you have many more things on your plate but just as a dance teacher we are always trying to learn new techniques new choreography, ways to better ourselves and our teaching style. I struggle staying organized and I think I am a fairly organized person, but I often let my ideas take off and get off task and then get unorganized. As dance teachers we are not only teaching moves but we deal with other things during class like dealing with students and their issues with their body image or comfort level in dance wear or other things that come with women-hood. We teach so many things, then we have our lives outside the studio which, I don’t know about you but I never stop thinking of dance and the next project or next dance routine. We have to set time aside for ourselves whether it’s getting together with a friend, reading a book, taking a bubble bath, having quality time with family! We must take care of ourselves and get some good rest!
We should be eating right which I know can be so hard especially if you have kids and you are running around trying to get so many things done and run errands and clean the house and do the laundry. So it’s tempting to just order out all the time.
It’s a good idea to take class. I got away from doing a lot of movements because something always hurt, then I just got out of shape and stopped doing certain tricks. But, I find that I am really craving a yoga or ballet class or a stretch class. It’s also great to take class from others because you might learn some different teaching techniques.
I’m sorry but as dance studio owners or dance teachers, we are rock stars!!! We manage so much, just don’t forget to take care of yourself!!! For real! I have recently lost a couple friends who are my age, and it’s scary, we never know when it’s our time to leave this earth. We must invest in ourselves.
Let’s be better for our ourselves and let’s do it together, it’s always more fun with a partner!
